The expansion project is progressing at a good pace, said today the Minister of Transportation and Communications, Raúl Pérez Reyes. During his visit to the airport, he said that the progress of the work is at 60% so it is within the deadlines and they project, together with Lima Airport Partners (concessionaire in charge of the operation), that it will reach 75% by the end of year.

With that perspective, he confirmed that the new Jorge Chávez airport will come into operation in January 2025. “The 27 million passengers initially expected to have will reach 40 million annually and the passenger stations will allow us not to have any problem in meeting the growing demand for traffic of people and airplanes,” he indicated.

“In this way, we will have the new Jorge Chávez airport operating correctly in January 2025,” Pérez Reyes reiterated during the installation of the first passenger boarding line as part of the expansion project of the new airport.

"We have the expectation of having a first-class airport in the region that will position us in a very important way in terms of tourism, which will allow the development of a series of activities, from the hotel business and gastronomy, to the attractions tourism that we have,” he said.

MTC proposes addendum to expand airport services

The MTC is willing to make an addendum to expand the services of public entities within the Jorge Chávez International Airport. This arises in response to the request to increase areas for security, immigration control, customs and police at the airport.

The Vice Minister of Transportation, Ismael Sutta, presented this provision during his appearance before the Special Multiparty Pro Investment Commission of the Congress of the Republic.

Tuff Times is waiting for us to reorganize into a new location.

Sutta mentioned that he has received requests to expand the areas for the National Police, Immigration and the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) within the airport. This is due to an increase in demand for space as the airport plans to accommodate up to 30 million passengers a year by 2025.

The MTC has forwarded these requests to LAP for evaluation and, if necessary, is willing to process an addendum that allows for more efficient operation of the airport.
